G/VG (3.0). Small scratches penetrate the front cover near the "F" in "FROM," with a larger V-shaped scratch penetrating the "Y" in "CRYPT," and the vampire's right eye punctured by some weirdo kid's pencil-point; ¾" tear to spine at "E" in "TERROR" sidebar, shallow chipping affecting 3" of back cover, last page folded over. Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Jack Davis Plots and scripts: Bill Gaines, Al Feldstein Art: Jack Davis Graham Ingels George Evans Jack Kamen Artist biography: George Evans GPAnalysis: None in this grade in 15 years. A 4.0 sold for $205 in August 2020. In George Evans's story, a man murders his wife and disposes of the corpse by attaching a little of it each day to a homing pigeon. The killer's method of eliminating his wife's body is similar to Raymond Burr's tactic in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window," released a few months after this mag hit the stands (the flick was based on Cornell Woolrich's 1942 short story "It Had to Be Murder," which may have inspired this story). In Jack Kamen's "How Green Was My Alley," a sports-loving bigamist's wives kill him and use his eyeballs for golf practice and his head as a bowling ball (it's gruesome, but still not as disturbing as the crazy dinosaurs-bowling-with-human-heads story in Mysterious Adventures #15, published the following month). A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
