SUPERMAN A special effects prop portrait model of Christopher Reeve as Superman in a flying pose, modelled from foam rubber with painted head, hands and feet, dressed in blue stockinette bodysuit and red shorts with yellow vinyl belt and scarlet jersey cape, the bodysuit and cape with appliquéd 'S' logos, 21¼in. long (face, hands and feet perished, one foot detached) - used by the Travelling Matte/Blue Screen Aerial effects unit for the 1978 Warner film Superman ; accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the first assistant director on the film stating ...The shots would be lined-up using a small rubber doll of Superman, which was chroma-keyed over a background within the closed-circuit television system in use on the set, so that when the actor Christopher Reeve came on to the stage to film, we would play back the television material, the Superman doll showing the actor the moves that would be necessary..This Blue Screen shooting was undertaken at Pinewood Studios, England, during the period March to August of 1978, and my recollection is that this was the only such doll used...
