A COLLECTION OF OVER FIFTY AUTOGRAPH LETTERS SIGNED, INCLUDING SEVERAL FROM THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE FIRST GILBERT AND SULLIVAN OPERA, THESPIS including by: W.S. Gilbert (to Messrs Metzler about the libretto of Princess Toto, 2 pages,1893), Nellie Farren (4 cartes-de-visite, signed, by the creator of Mercury in Thespis), John Hollingshead (2, noting a "run down to Rosherville" (1900) and to Hepworth Dixon discussing books (1858), with a portrait, signature and a handwritten poem (1898)), J.L.Toole (to Saunders, about J.M. Barrie's Walker, (1892), Helen D'Oyly Carte (about Hollingshead (1899)), Richard D'Oyly Carte and Gaston Serpette (Document signed about La Branche Cassée, 1876), and a letter about boxes at the theatre in 1816; together with autograph letters by Mercadante (to Lucca about Leonora, 1844), Benedict, W. Horsley, Hauptmann, Bishop, Gye, Augustus Harris, Heger, German, Imogen Holst, Ketèlbey, Macfarren (2), Maconchy, Sondheim, Plomer, Hassall, de Lara (2), Sims Reeves, Thomas Porter Cooke (autograph of part of The Wandering Boys), and others, c.55 items in all, some soiling, occasional tears
