(Small tears to folding map in vol.I, second folding plate in vol.II with tears at fold, some light marginal spotting.) Contemporary calf, covers with border of wide Greek-key roll in gilt, with inner blind roll-tooling, spines in seven compartments with double raised bands, lettered in two, the others tooled in gilt and blind (joints worn, spines chipped at head and foot). Provenance : Viscount Downe (armorial bookplate); William Mist, Ightham (inscriptions). FIRST EDITION of "the source book for the later Greek revival in England" (Fowler), it contains the first accurate measured drawings of Athenian buildings. The present set has the portrait from vol. II and three plans or maps from vol. III bound in vol.I, and plate XXIX from chapter I, vol. II, omitted as usual, the map of Delos (plate VI, chapter X, vol. III) is misbound at the start of the chapter and is from the state with the scale, but without the title or plate number. The work was completed with the publication of a fourth volume containing miscellaneous papers and drawings in 1816 and a supplementary fifth volume in 1830. Fowler 340; Harris 857. (3)
