Berlin: Adolph Fürstner, [1920].2° (461 x 342mm). 7 full-page copper-engravings by Franz Christophe signed in pencil, printed decoration by Christophe, lithographic music. Original boards backed in cream reversed leather, front cover illustrated by Christophe, remains of early brown wrapper and box. SIGNED BY RICHARD STRAUSS on first engraving. No. 49 of 60 copies, on handmade paper. Strauss' op.68 Brentano settings, composed in 1918, are 'among the greatest of his songs ... wide-ranging in mood, challenging in technical difficulty and completely apposite in word-setting' (Grove).
