With excellent sound. - Provenance: According to family tradition, the Stella musical box and its discs (Lot 47 in this auction) were a gift from the British music hall performer Vesta Tilley to the seller's great-aunt, Sister Elizabeth Mary Henderson, in 1919 in recognition of her efforts saving Tilley's brother during the Great War. - Vesta Tilley (1864-1952) was one of the first male impersonators to achieve acclaim on the stage. During a career spanning 53 years, she performed for audiences across Great Britain, fondly remembered for her patriotic songs and impersonations of the armed forces in roles like "Tommy in the Trench" and "Jack Tar home from Sea".
