From Khotan he surveyed eastwards, and Loulan, and in 1907 he reached to Tunhwang, where he visited and surveyed the 'Cave of Thousand Buddhas'" (Yakushi). - Some browning, stronger to folding panoramas and maps, slight foxing in places; vol. 1: 3 leaves loose, few pages with minor marginal fraying; vol. 2: front endpaper and first leaves lose, textblock somewhat shaken. With manuscript ownership inscription to each front endpaper. Original cloth with gold-embossed cover vignette, spine and top edge gilt; some bumping to corners and extremities; vol. 1: rear inner hinge partly cracked; vol. 2: some rubbing and spotting, rear joint partly cracked.
