Lot of 3 fine 1870s views of the busy St. Louis levee all by Boehl and Koenig. Grand Republic: Side-wheel packet, wood hull. Built in Shousetown, Pennsylvania in 1867. Originally Great Republic; renamed in 1876 after repairs. On her second or third trip, she carried Emperor Don Pedro II of Brazil from St. Louis to New Orleans. The Grand Republic carried the largest load of cotton ever brought to the New Orleans port at the time, 8,210 bales of cotton. She was destroyed by a fire on September 9, 1877. Ivory mount with rounded corners. A view of a steamer. The name on the front cannot be seen, but the side of the steamer reads For Cairo, Memphis, Vicksburg, N. Orleans. On verso, Views of St. Louis and Vicinity. Boehl & Koenig, Photographers. Ivory mount with rounded corners. Boehl & Koenig's Views of St. Louis and Vicinity imprinted on verso. #82 Fr.
