Publisher’s textured green cloth gilt with inset silhouettes of Africa, brown coated endpapers (Volume I joints starting, a bit of fraying at extreme ends of spine, else a clean set). Early half calf over marbled boards, 2 morocco spine labels gilt, raised bands, elegant gilt scrollwork and centerpieces in compartments, all edges marbled, stamp–signed by Mudie (light rubbing to corners and along joints). Edited Dorothy Stanley Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1909. 8vo. 16 photogravures, color folding map. Original red cloth stamped in gilt (few spots of fraying along spine, joints cracked and starting, remnants of bookplate removal to pastedowns).
