Clark Company Date: 1930 Description: 376 pp. Illustrations, multi-colored frontispiece map, portraits. Blue cloth, Covenant stock, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. One of 1505 copies. First Edition. "Cole was president of the Wisconsin Historical Society, and spent many years in the collection of the material. Cole printed quite a bit of this material in a series of booklets and brochures in the 1920s and Kellogg helped compile the material when his health declined during production of the book. The accounts are drawn from the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa and Minnesota. The conditions typify life throughout the expanding frontier." Clark & Brunet II, 53. Lot Amendments Condition: Plain brown dust jacket with portion cut out for spine title; small spot of spine below author's name; light offsetting to front and rear endpapers from kraft dust jacket, uncut pages; else near fine.
