St Christopher - Charles Sykes. A particularly rare mascot designed by Charles Sykes, depicting a monk-style figure, dressed in a hooded robe, the original bronze having a good patina, the square base inscribed St Christopher at the front, and C. Sykes at the rear, 4in (10cm) high, not display-mounted. Possibly one of the first mascots ever created for use on a motor-car, it is believed that the design was specifically created for use on the current Lord Montagu’s father’s 1899 Daimler. The Montagu family’s example of this mascot is illustrated on the front cover of Motor-Car Mascots and Badges, Shire Publications, 1991.. (1)
