Engraved architectural title, letterpress list of kingdoms, engraved Royal Achievement, three letterpress section titles with woodcut borders, three woodcut Royal arms, 67 double-page engraved maps of the counties of Great Britain, most by Jodocus Hondius after Christopher Saxton, John Norden and others, woodcut inititals, head- and tailpieces, mounted on guards throughout. (Margins of title and map of Chester restored, minor restorations to a few paper edges, repair to margin of map of Nottingham touching platemark, some light browning, notably to map of Northumberland, neatly repaired tears to 3 maps.) Contemporary panelled calf gilt, the covers stamped with the arms of James I (Davenport p.242), and the initials 'PW' (rebacked with original spine laid down, corners restored). Provenance : James I (arms on binding) -- P W[ilbraham] (initials on covers) -- Hugh Willbraham (early ownership inscription on title, scratched through and signature trials to List of Kingdoms leaf) -- Weston Library (armorial bookplate).
