Translated from the Swedish original. Dublin: for Messrs. White, Cash & Byrne, 1785. 2 volumes, 8° (207 x 120mm). Engraved folding map, frontispiece and 9 engraved plates, 2 folding. (Frontispiece to vol. I spotted and somewhat stained, folding map torn and repaired, outer and upper margins of B1 in vol.I cut down, lacking final ?blank in vol.II, general light marginal spotting.) Contemporary speckled sheep (rebacked to style, covers scuffed, corners worn). Provenance : Thomas Tolley (Bewdley, Worcestershire, early inscription). FIRST DUBLIN EDITION: 'VERY SCARCE' (Rosove). Sparrman's work includes accounts of his travels inland from the settlement at the Cape of Good Hope and as assistant naturalist to Johann Forster aboard Captain James Cook's Resolution from September 1772 to March 1775. Rosove 316.B1 (not calling for the folding map). (2)
