"The plucky daughter of a St. Paul, Minn., railroader who lost his job in the Great Depression, Kroc was keenly aware of what it meant to be poor. That made her very sensitive to the less fortunate. But her modesty caused her to shun the limelight. As one of the nation's most prolific philanthropists, she remained an intensely private person to the end - so much so that she kept secret her terminal condition from all but a few who were closest to her." -Editorial The San Diego Union-Tribune Tuesday October 14, 2003. One of the few she informed of her illness was her friend, and publisher of the San Diego Union-Tribune Helen K. Copley. Lot Amendments Condition: Fine. Item number: 246318
