Kroc. Joan B. Kroc (1928-2003) was a philanthropist and third wife to McDonald's CEO Ray Kroc. "The plucky daughter of a St. Paul, Minn., railroader who lost his job in the Great Depression, Kroc was keenly aware of what it meant to be poor. That made her very sensitive to the less fortunate. But her modesty caused her to shun the limelight.
