Sir John Tenniel (British, 1820-1914) FROM 'ALICE S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND & THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS' Four wood-engravings, 1988, the edition was 250, printed from the original woodblocks cut by Dalziel brothers, produced by Jonathan Stephenson at the Rocket Press, each on wove paper, with full margins each overall 26 x 20cm, framed (4) When the blocks were cut by the Dalziel brothers, they were so fine that it was feared they would deteriorate before the printing of the books was completed. They were then used as masters from which the electrotypes copies were produced for mass printing, but there would inevitably be a loss of definition and tone. The original woodblocks were discovered by Macmillan in 1985 and 250 sets only were produced. No further sets were to be commissioned.
