(Sir Francis) The World Encompassed, edited by Francis Fletcher, and W.S.W.Vaux, 8pp. advertisements etc. at beginning, half-title, folding map mounted on linen (all becoming loose), presentation copy from Vaux to James Edward Fitzgerald inscribed on front free endpaper, original pictorial cloth, gilt, rubbed, corners worn, rebacked, Hakluyt Society, 1854 § Trollope (Anthony) New Zealand, half-title, folding map (small tear repaired), pencil notes to rear free endpaper, original cloth, rubbed, joints worn and split, 1874, 8vo (2) *** James Fitzgerald (1818-1896), New Zealand politician, first Superintendent of the Canterbury Province, and regarded unofficially by some as the country's first Prime Minister. As a young man he worked alongside W.S.W.Vaux in the British Museum Antiquities department.
