Included is a manuscript note Styer Seymour - Indian Pipe, (Sometimes the pipe of peace.) Received from a chief by Lieut. Styer 50 years ago. late 19th century Henry Styer was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1884 and was assigned to the Twenty-first Infantry at Fort Frederick Steele, Wyoming for two years. In 1891 Styer was promoted to First Lieutenant and stationed in Indian Territory. After his stint in Indian Territory, he worked at the Utah Agricultural College where he served as a military instructor from 1892-1896. Condition: Some fading to quillwork; age split in wood; edge of bowl broken.
