Silk textile, 11.75 x 16 in., text printed in blue. Framed,13 x 17 in. Engagements of the Queen's Regiment. Natal Field Forces. Maritzburg, South Africa: Vause, Slatter & Co., n.d., ca 1900. A list of Boer War engagements and dates are printed below, starting with Beacon Hill and Harris Hill (November 23, 1899) and finishing with the Battle at Alleman's Nek (June 11, 1900), where the British forces under General Redvers Buller finally broke through the Boer forces and entered the Transvaal. With symbols and mottoes of the Queen's Royal Regiment at top. The Second Boer War (October 1899 – May 1902) was fought between the British Empire and two Boer states, the South African Republic (Republic of Transvaal) and the Orange Free State, over the Empire's influence in South Africa. Provenance: Property from the Inventory of Rex Stark Condition: Not examined outside frame. Toning to textile, some spotting and light stains. Difference in toning in margins, likely a result of being mounted previously.
