One of these is in The New York Public Library Berg Collection, two were ...Read more There are five known examples of this stencil, (on various types of paper and card), which were executed between 1905-1907, when Synge visited Yeats at Snails castle in Devon. One of these is in The New York Public Library Berg Collection, two were purchased from the artist in 1929, through Messrs Bumpus, for the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, and two are in Private Collections. (See, Jack B. Yeats, His Watercolours, Drawings and Pastels, Hilary Pyle, p.136, catalogue no. 520 - 523.) This is similar to these known copies, but very slightly larger. This portrait was used for a pair of Irish postage stamps issued in 1971 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of John Millington Synge. Visualise on Your Wall Using Art Visualiser 1.
