Henderson, Elliott Blaine. Springfield (OH): Publ. by the Author, 1909. 12mo, red cloth with gilt lettering on front, 65pp. Inscribed to Chief Richard O'Brien, and dated Aug. 24, 1909. Henderson (1877-1944), born in Springfield, was an African-American poet whose works were mostly in dialect. This "dialectic" style was popular around the turn of the century. Contemporaries such as Paul Lawrence Dunbar, a Dayton native, had achieved national recognition, and James Whitcomb Riley was writing in "Hoosier dialect." Condition: Some stains on free front pages, darkened areas on covers. Binding tight. Overall VG+.
