Shubrick, Rear Admiral William Branford (1790-1874) Collection of 122 Letters and Documents, 1860s. Including a letter written by Shubrick and addressed to President Andrew Johnson recommending a West Point cadet; approximately seventeen letters from various friends and associates asking for assistance or information, including Presidential pardons and other business; an invitation from Secretary of State William Seward to meet; an interesting family letter from a nephew in the military posted in Victoria, Texas in 1867; twenty-six letters from family members (mostly nieces and nephews); thirty-six letters from siblings; and approximately thirty-four receipts for various purchases. Shubrick was a U.S. naval officer between 1806 and 1861; he served in the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War; and although he was retired from the Navy in the early months of the Civil War, he continued to hold a prominent place among his fellow public servants in the government and military in Washington, D.C.
