(Some occasional foxing.) Original blue-grey boards, uncut (rebacked preserving a portion of the original spine and spine label, joints starting); blue morocco pull-off case. Provenance : Eaton (contemporary ownership signatures in ink) -- fragment of verse in German in pencil on front free endpaper -- Professor Edward Dowden, author of The Life of Percy Bysshe Shelley , 1886 (note on pastedown) -- Charles C. Auchincloss (bookplate) sold Parke-Bernet, New York, 30 November 1961, lot 504 -- Robert J. Hamershlag (bookplate) -- purchased from John F. Fleming, New York, 1 May 1970. FIRST EDITION, second issue, with the Contents leaf cancelled, correcting the spelling of "Miscellaneous." Prometheus Unbound is one of Shelley's most ambitious works, and the collected short poems at the volume's end include the first printings of "Ode to the West Wind," "To a Skylark," and "The Sensitive Plant."
