A total of 138 species of the group are recognized, all of which, except one, are figured on fine-hand-colored plates by J. G. Keulemans, who was himself acquainted with these small birds in their native haunts, and whose notes on the Sun-birds inhabiting Prince’s Island have been incorporated in the work’ (Wood). The list of contents calls for four pages of descriptive text for each of plates 5 and 55 (Nectarinia famosa and Cinnyris zenobia), but six and two pages respectively appears to be the correct count.
