With 22 (7 folding) engraved plates and 11 (5 folding) engraved maps. - This first French edition includes notes and corrections by the author to complement the original English edition of 1738-1746. Shaw's Travels is especially esteemed for its botanical and zoological plates, in addition to the information Shaw imparts on the antiquities, geology and geography of the areas he visited. - Contemporary calf with gilt spine title and rich gilt tooling to spine and edges (slightly rubbed, small missing part on the top of the spine of vol. 2) - In a few places waterstained. In some places browned or brownstained. Paste-down endpapers with glue traces. Very beautiful, decorative volumes.
