The Rebbe of Pittsburg-Ashdod, Rabbi Avraham Leifer (1918-1990), author of Emunat Avraham and Eiba DiAvraham. Born in Krole, Hungary, to his pious father Rabbi Yosef, author of the Tzidkat Yosef, who was son of Rabbi Bertshi of Satmar, son of Rabbi Mordechai of Nadvorna. He studied in the Rachov yeshiva under Rabbi Shlomo Zalman of Rachov, where he excelled in his studies, and at the age of 13 [!] he received Yoreh Yoreh rabbinic ordination. From there, he traveled to learn in Szekelyhid under Rabbi Yehuda Segal Rosner, author of Imrei Yehuda. He married the daughter of Rabbi Itamar, the Elder Rebbe of Nadvorna. After the holocaust, he escaped from Romania and settled in NY, where he became known as Rabbi of Chernowitz. After his father's passing in 1966, he was appointed Rebbe of Pittsburg, and several years later, he made aliya to Ashdod, where he established the Pittsburg community. He is renowned for the tunes he composed, which are full of yearning and purity. In the year the postcard was sent, he composed a tune for the verse Yismechu HaShamaim VeTagel HaAretz, which is alluded to in the way the date is written in Hebrew. 9x15.5 cm. Good condition, filing holes with slight damage to text.
