SHAKESPEARE, William (1564-1616). [ Comedies, Histories and Tragedies , London: Tho. Cotes for Robert Allot 1632]. 2° (307 x 200mm). Five plays extracted from the Second Folio: The Tragedie of King Lear ; The Tragedy of Othello, the Moore of Venice ; The Tragedy of Anthony, and Cleopatra ; The Life of King Henry the Fift [ h ]; The first Part of Henry the Sixt [ h ]; The third Part of King Henry the Sixt [ h ]. Double column, box-ruled, woodcut head- and tailpieces and initials. (The majority of leaves cropped, light browning throughout, some spotting or dampstaining, occasional wear to fore-edges with small loss at corners of zz2-zz6.) 20th-century red half morocco gilt. The 33rd, 34th, 35th, 19th and 20th plays from the first issue of the Second Folio. The printer's errors accord with those cited by Pforzheimer and Greg. In the Histories, page 94 is misnumbered as 49; in the Tragedies, pages 341-2 are misnumbered as 143-4 and pages 351-2 as 151-2. A few leaves accord with the printing of the First Folio - page 95 is not wrongly numbered, as in the Second Folio, and pages 129-132 bear the signatures n-n2 (rather than o3-4 as called for in the Second Folio). cf. Greg III, 1113; cf. Pforzheimer 906; cf. STC 22274.
