Details and newspaper cutting relating to the Monospar which crash landed in the Timor Sea, Gilroy served as the Wireless Operator. The crew were rescued by natives and eventually went on board the British Steamer Nimoda which was on route for Durban. The Monospar was attempting a record flight from Melbourne to England but having left Darwin on route for Kupang, Timor crashed on the Seringapatam Reef. Pilot error relating to the compass was put as the blame, fortunately all four crew survived.
