Title: Set of "The Hawaiian Souvenir Playing Cards" in original two-part Koa wood case Author: ** Place: Honolulu & Hilo Publisher: Wall, Nichols Company, Ltd. Date: c.1920 Description: Complete set of 52 cards, plus a joker, and a card describing the set, all with a picture of the statue of Kamehameha I on the back, a different view on the front. With all edges gilt; in two-part Koa wood case with gilt & color emblem. 3¾x2¾x¾". Playing cards commemorating Hawaii, produced by the U.S. Playing Card Co. in Cincinnati for Wall, Nichols in Honolulu. Though copyrighted in 1901, the presences of famed surfer and swimmer Duke Kahanamoku on one of the cards indicates a later date. Besides Duke, there pictures of Hula girls, surfing at Diamond Head, the Moana Hotel at Waikiki, Queen Liliuokalani and other royalty, and more.
