In early (probably original) oak frame, with lath backing. A rare large format print by Sella, who was born in Biella in the Piedmont area of the Italian Alps, and was a mountaineer of considerable ability, as well as a skilled photographer. He accompanied Luigi Amedeo, Duke of the Abruzzi on his famous 1909 expedition to the Karakoram Himalayas, which is when this image was taken; it is among his best known. C
