Manuscript calligraphic title in black and blue ink on recto of leaf facing 'frontispiece' 88 pages of text and illustrations mounted (within printed decorative borders with running headline 'Captain Scott's Own Story'). Some illustrations full-page, others spread over two pages, a number printed in two colors, all after H.G. Ponting or members of the Polar Party. Original dark blue morocco presentation binding, covers stamped in gilt and blind, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in gilt in the second, the others with repeat decoration of double-fillet rectangles, turn-ins, t.e.g. others uncut. Condition : very slight fading to spine, book-plate removed from front endpaper, occasional light rubbing. Provenance : Conrad P. Fry (presentation title inscription, signed for Fry by Edward Evans on front endpaper); sale Christie's, 25 September 2002, lot 351 (£1,673). Presentation binding signed by E.R.G.R. Evans (Commander on Scott's Second Antarctic Expedition, 1910-13). It is not known how many copies were printed, but from the elaborate binding, the labor to mount each news page, it was prepared by the publishers for a presentation purpose. With several exceptions, all the photographs illustrated, are here published for the first time'. It also includes Scott's last message in hand- and type-script.
