SCHOTT, Gaspar (1608-1666). Cursus mathematicus, sive absoluta omnium mathematicarum... Würzburg: Heirs of Martin Schönwetter, 1661. 2 o (330 x 204 mm). Engraved additional title by A. Froehlich (trimmed at fore-edge) and 42 engraved plates (2 folding). (Some browning throughout, some light dampstaining, upper right blank corner of title cut away, tiny hole to Fff5, a1 with marginal repair, minor worming at end.) Contemporary blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards, 2 brass clasps (a little staining to covers). Provenance : Pufling (early ink name on title); unidentified ink stamp; Winfried Zillner (small ink stamp on title and engraved title). FIRST EDITION. Schott's text deals principally with mathematics, but also contains sections on astronomy, astrology, chronography, geography, dialling, mechanics, optics, hydrostatics, military fortification, etc. Also included is the appendix containing Euclid's Propositionum . Schott, a Jesuit and disciple of Athanasius Kircher taught mathematics at Mainz and Würzberg.
