Beschreibung:

A very scarce US M1833 Dragoon officer's saber. Congress re-established regular army mounted units only in 1833 with the First Regiment of Dragoons and the Second Regiment in 1836. The units played important parts in US westward expansion. Modeled on the British 1822 pattern. Brass hilt with sharkskin grip, coiled brass binding wire, etched blade, plain metal scabbard. CONDITION: Good. Hilt with just faint traces of gilt, mostly age toned brass. Wrap shows minor small scuff marks and wear near pommel. Wire in place. Blade pad present. Etching is weak. No maker address visible. Some motifs can be made out, more in outline than detail, the Indian with raised tomahawk, American eagle, etc. Motto not legible. Metal is smooth with good edge and point. Color gray mixed with dark gray overall. Scabbard complete with rings, drag, and throat. Smooth metal. Brown in color. A number of substantial pinches to the scabbard, but nothing affecting the seating of the blade. A good example of a scarce US dragoon sword connected with the early west. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. Condition: Very Good. Name Value Blade Length 34" Overall Length 39" Paperwork
