Engraved frontispiece portrait of the dedicatee, Mario Capra, title vignette, 36 etched and engraved plates by Cristoforo dall’Acqua after the author, the majority folding. (Some plates reinforced along inner margin, several with minor tears or light marks at margins, last few with small wormhole in upper margin, marginal soiling to text, inner margin of A4 repaired, C3 with marginal tear.) Contemporary vellum with morocco label, red and green speckled edges (label chipped). FIRST EDITION of this excellent architectural guide to Vicenza, arranged as a dialogue over a two-day visit, with the main object of describing Palladio’s buildings. A later edition was printed anonymously in 1780, but with direct description replacing the dialogue form. Fowler 43; Millard/ Italian 19; RIBA 262; not in Cicognara.
