Beloved in New York as a cartoonist for the New Yorker Magazine and creator of the iconic "A New Yorkers View of the World," Steinberg was born in Roumania and went to Italy when he was 19 to study architecture. However, once he received his diploma he decided to become an illustrator. His unusual approach, his ironic humor and his absurd graphic accumulations had a tremendous influence on artists like Raymond Savignac and Andre Francois. For his first exhibition at the Galerie Maeght he designed this original lithograph to announce the show. The image, in Steinbergs immediately recognizable style, is a distorted view of the Milan railway station designed with a precision in the drawing that harks back to his training as an architect.
