Original boards. FIRST EDITION. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR: 'Master George Domvile Wheeler with the affectionate and Christian regards of M M Sherwood 26th August 1819'. (The recipient, then aged four, was later the author of Marriage with a Deceased Wife's Sister not Contrary to God's Law, published in 1849.) With 19th-century pencilled notes, citing Locke and Jeremy Taylor, on front free endpaper. Also INSCRIBED BY SASSOON: 'To Philip Morrell with the most pious greetings from Siegfried Sassoon. Xmas 1921.' [SASSOON, Siegfried]. The History of Margaret Whyte; or The Life and Death of a Good Child. Bath: Binns, 1832. 12°. Chapbook, with wood-engraved tailpiece and list of books. Original printed wrappers. Ninth edition. PRESENTATION COPY to Julian Morrell, inscribed 'Miss Morrell with Cordial good wishes from C. Oyde [Siegfried Sassoon] Xmas 1922.' [SASSOON, Siegfried]. The Amulet: A Christian and Literary Remembrancer, edited by S. C. Hall. London: Westley & Davis, 1832. 12°. Contemporary cloth (rubbed). INSCRIBED BY SASSOON: 'To P. Morrell accompanied by the most Christian & Literary sentiments of Cyprian Oyde. Dec. 25. 1922'. Sassoon acquired the nickname 'Cyprian Oyde' -- 'cyprianoid' or carp-like -- at Garsington because he was always carping about small matters. (3)
