SARRE, Friedrich and Fredrik Robert MARTIN Die Ausstellung von Meisterwerken Muhammedanischer Kunst in München 1910 . Munich: F. Bruckmann, 1912. 3 volumes, 2 o (490 x 387 mm). Half-titles. Numerous monochrome and mounted color plates. Original cloth decorated in black and green (some soiling, hinges reinforced, library shelf marks effaced from spines). Provenance : George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum (bookplates, library stamps). LIMITED EDITION, number 212 of 430 copies of the catalogue from the 1910 Exhibition of Masterpieces of Muhammedan Art in Munich, which was notable for being one of the first European exhibits on Islamic work. Sarre was one of the exhibition's organizers, and in letting the art stand on its own merits, he moved away from the idea of presenting Islamic Art as an element used to evoke Western fantasies of "the Orient."
