In which are included, an Account of the Portuguese Settlements on the East Coast of Africa . London: F.C. and J. Rivington, 1814. 4 o (297 x 242 mm). 2 engraved vignettes, 33 engraved plates and maps (of 34, lacking the map of Abyssinia) (3 folding). (Very occasional light spotting, light offsetting from plates to text.) Later maroon morocco, spine gilt, top edge gilt (joints worn, some chipping to spine and edges). FIRST EDITION. Salt went to Abyssinia in 1809 to establish contact with the King of Abyssinia on behalf of the British government. His account includes a lengthy glossary of local languages. Blackmer 1479.
