Venice: Johannes Lucilius Santritter and Hieronymus de Sanctis, 31 March 1488. 4° (213 x 154mm). Collation: A 1 0 B 8 BB 12 C 8 D 8+1 E-F 8 G 6 (A1r blank, A1v woodcut, A2r Sacrobosco, C1r Regiomontanus, D7r Puerbach, G6r colophon and printer's mark). 69 leaves, A1 and 4 supplied from another, shorter, copy. 35 lines. Type: 5:82R (text); 10:65G and 24 bis :55G (legends on diagrams). First paragraph (seven lines) on A2r printed in red. 12- and 6-line woodcut initials, the first two heightened with gold, woodcut printer's device, two full-page woodcuts (Astronomia, Urania and Ptolemy on A1v and an armillary sphere on A4v), numerous woodcut diagrams, eight printed in colours (seven in black and either ochre or red, one in black, red and ochre). (Margins of the 2 supplied leaves (A1, A4) extended, a few leaves loose, light stains.) Contemporary Italian panelled calf over wooden boards blindstamped with ropework X and S tools, 2 fore-edge clasps (one renewed, some wear to spine). Provenance : contemporary marginal annotations, a chiromantical drawing on rear endpaper; St. Cyr, Franciscan convent (17th-century inscription).
