The match reached a thrilling climax when Denny Shute missed his putt on the 18th but Syd Easterbrook sank his to win the match and the Cup. U.S. Team Captain was Walter Hagen; John Henry Taylor the British non-playing Captain. It was the last time Britain would win the Ryder Cup for years to come.
