In 1872, a wax model of Tsar's Falconer under Ivan the Terrible was created, and Chopin acquired the patent for casting the work in bronze. The following year, the work was exhibited internationally in the Russian pavilion at the Vienna World's Fair and in 1882 at the All-Russian Art Industrial Exhibition in Moscow with the title, Tsar's Falconer of the XVI Century. Tsar's Falconer under Ivan the Terrible displays Lanceray's hallmark attention to detail and concern with historical accuracy, yet it is difficult to determine whether the falconer belongs to the period of Tsar Ivan the Terrible (1530-1584) or of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich (1629-1676). Regardless, the work was widely praised, and its influence was felt throughout the Russian visual arts. The firm of Fabergé, which also participated in the All-Russian Industrial Art Exhibition in 1882, produced a magnificent silver kovsh (sold Christie's, London, November 26, 2012, ), owned by the Nobel family, which was directly inspired by Tsar's Falconer under Ivan the Terrible. Another cast of Tsar's Falconer under Ivan the Terrible is held in the State Historical Museum in Moscow, a gift of Alexei Bakhrushin (1853-1904), a prominent Moscow merchant and noted art patron and collector. One of three large scale versions of the work was installed in the garden of Tatoi Palace, the summer residence of Queen Olga of Greece, née Grand Duchess Olga Konstaninovna of Russia (1851-1926).
