Nouvelle Collection de Quarante-Deux Vues de Saint-Pétersbourg et de ses Environs.
St.-Pétersbourg: Se Trouve au Salon Littéraire Français, Chez Alexandre Pluchart, Imprimeur - Libraire, Éditeur, 1826. Oblong small folio (344 x 470 mm). Title and list of plates within engraved border, plan of the city and 42 lithographed plates with captions. Publisher’s red morocco backed paper boards with paper label to front cover (a trimmed title to the1825 edition). Condition: plates with very light thumbsoiling, some browning at edges; wear to extremities, covers lightly dampstained and darkened, spine perished, joints cracked. Provenance: H. Biddulph (signature to front free endpaper). a celebrated platebook of views of st. petersburg and early examples of russian lithography. Published by Pluchart largely for the tourist trade, these plates includes views of palaces, street scenes, monuments, the Hermitage, as well as two plates depicting early suspension bridges. Each view is identified with a caption in French, with the exception of the final plate, “The Residence of John Booker, Esq. His Britannic Majesty’s Vice-Consul at Cronstadt, in Russia.” This last place identifies the artist of the view as Alexander Wagnon.
