De conceptu et generatione hominis is one of the most popular works on obstetrics in the 16th century. The importance of this work lies in its illustrations, which include reproductive organs, surgical instruments, birth deformities or abnormalities, etc. "Of greater interest, however, is the series of seven woodcuts illustrating contemporary ideas of mammalian embryology, which provide a unique and valuable insight into how early writers envisioned the process of embryonic development" (Norman).
