Royal Household Mail: The remarkable and historically important collection of postal ephemera connected with the Royal Family during the reigns of Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth. Many items are accompanied by valuable research notes (in German) and the whole is presented to high exhibition standard. The contents include signed letters, many on headed paper, envelopes with Royal Crests or monograms, Official mail with a wide range of cachets, special cancellations, parcel post and telegraphic items and comprises: Reign of Queen Victoria 1837-1901 : 50 items including 1813 a.l.s (2) from Edward, Duke of Kent to A. Coneland, Architect, 1837 a.l.s. signed "Victoria", 1850 (c.) a.l.s. signed "Albert", 1881 mourning envelope "by Royal Messenger" with a.l.s. from Princess Victoria, 1875 envelope from P.M. Gladstone to U.S.A. with 2½d. cancelled by "V.R." hooded d.s. and latter written on his behalf, various envelopes with Crests of Royal personages or establishments including 1870's series from Osborne House, six with adhesives cancelled by "POR/S.C." in star railway h.s. (including 6d. on envelope to Kiel), 1876 and 1879 Telepgraph forms to Sir Hastings Doyle, 1884 OHMS envelope to Austria with 5d. cancelled by "V.R." hooded d.s., 1870 mourning envelope The Queen to Disraeli. Reign of King Edward VII 1901-10 : 18 items including 1904 parcel tag with label bearing 2d. + 6d. from "His Majesty the King", Windsor to Wolverhampton, 1904 and 1906 Official envelopes from Sandringham showing different monograms, 1904 a.l.s. from Balmoral signed "CHATSWORTH" skeleton c.d.s., 1902 a.l.s. from Balmoral signed "Edward R", 1902 a.l.s. from Princess Helena, 1903 a.l.s. from Princess Victoria Mary, Sandringham and 1910 picture postcard cancelled by "BUCKINGHAM PALACE" c.d.s. Reign of King George V 1910-36 : 37 items including a good range of Royal Crests and monograms on envelopes, Telegraph forms (13) one from Bolton Abbey to an Equerry at Buckingham Palace (receiving c.d.s.) another from Buckingham Palace, 1935 Official paid envelope from St. James's Palace with a.l.s. signed "Edward P" (later Edward VIII), piece of parcel wrapper with label bearing 1/- cancelled by Buckingham Palace c.d.s., 1920-32 registered envelope (4) from Buckingham Palace with London S.W. 43 egistration labels, 1915 envelope with Privy Purse h.s. to Nossi Bé bearing 2½d. and mail from Balmoral, Windsor and Sandringham. Reign of King Edward VIII 1936 : 4 items comprising Privy Purse envelope, envelope showing "GVR" monogram with printed letter from Buckinghamn Palace, similar envelope without enclosure and (Nov.) registered envelope from Buckingham Palace with rare boxed "ERI/VIII" monogram. Reign of King George VI 1936-52 : 27 items including a good range of envelopes with Crests and monograms, mail abroad (Jamaica and South Africa), registered mail with 1937 stationery envelope from Hampton Court cancelled by rubber c.d.s. in violet and 1939 envelopes from Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace and mail from Holyrood House, Sandringham, St. James's Palace and Balmoral. Reign of Queen Elizabeth II 1952-48 : 48 items including a good range of Royal Official Mail from a number of residences, registered mail, collateral items with 1972 Christmas greetings card signed "Elizabeth R" and "Philip" with a coloured photo of the Royal Family and an earlier Christmas card signed "Elizabeth R" with a black and white photograph of the Queen and Queen Mother.
