An attempt to unite in one volume a short account of those birds which have become extinct in historical times , London: Hutchinson & Co., 1907. 2° (374 x 278mm). 45 coloured lithographed plates by Keulemans, Lodge, Grönvold, Smit and Frohawk, 4 plates in outline. Contemporary green half morocco, spine gilt in compartments, top edges gilt (edges lightly rubbed, short tear on lower cover). NUMBER 15 OF 300 COPIES, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. "A detailed account of the subject, with short descriptions, histories of the known facts relating to the species and a good bibliography. The plates are excellent" (Zimmer p.533). Anker 430; Mullens and Swann p.497; Nissen IVB 795; Wood p.543: "The highest authority on the subject, beautifully illustrated".
