ROSSETTI, DANTE GABRIEL. Dante and His Circle: With the Italian Poets Preceding Him...A Collection of Lyrics, Edited, and Translated in the Original Metres...Revised and Re-arranged Edition. London: Ellis and White 1874. 8vo, original greenish-blue cloth, blocked and lettered in gilt (binding designed by Rossetti?), top of spine repaired, cloth slipcase. Second edition of The Early Italian Poets... , PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by the author to Canon Richard Watson Dixon on front free endpaper: "To R W Dixon with kind remembrances DG Rossetti 1874." Fredeman 23.3. The poet and historian Dixon was an associate of the Pre-Raphaelites and had been a contributor to The Germ (1850); he was particularly influenced by D.G. Rossetti. See Fredeman 24.26 for a scholarly article printing an exchange of letters (written in 1875) between Rossetti and Dixon on the subject of poetry. Bookplate of Marjorie Calvert Barnard.
