New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1910. 2 volumes, 8 o (247 x 158 mm). 50 plates with lettered tissue guards. Printed on Ruisdael paper (edges very slightly dusty.) Half pigskin and paper boards (Vol.1 slightly rubbed, some wear to extremities). Provenance: Edward Laurence Doheny (paper bookplate with stamped number 432) -- Estelle Doheny (paper bookplate). FIRST EDITION, NUMBER 57 OF 500 COPIES, WITH AN AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED AND A TYPED LETTER SIGNED TIPPED IN. Volume 1 signed on the limitation page ("Theodore Roosevelt"). Tipped in are 1) A TLS ("Theodore Roosevelt") as President, to F. Hendricks, Washington, 27 November 1902. 1 page, 4to, White House stationery, integral blank . Regretting he will is unable to attend a dedication. 2) ANS ("T. Roosevelt") to the Sec. of War, n.p., [circa 1898]. 1 page, 8vo, repaired . Roosevelt notes that both General Dodge and General Weston want Captain Gallagher to be promoted to a line officer. (2)
