Beschreibung:

DescriptionRoosevelt, Jr., Theodore and H.D. MinotThe Summer Birds of the Adirondacks in Franklin County, N.Y. Np, nd [Salem, 1877]
Bifolium (234 x 152 mm). 4pp. printed verso and recto; lightly browned, stray spots. Unbound. Housed in a blue quarter morocco slipcase with folding chemise.
Theodore Roosevelt's first separate publication, at the age of eighteen, being a numbered catalogue of ninety-seven bird species. The birds were observed by Roosevelt and Minot from 22 June to 9 July 1877, during their first summer vacation while in college at Harvard. In the introduction, Roosevelt states that Minot has "been with me only during the last week of June. Each of us has used his initials in making a statement which the other has not verified." The list was printed privately, and though it was issued in a very small run, it was reviewed favorably by scientific organizations. Rare: We trace only five copies offered at auction in the last 40 years.
