ROOSEVELT, FRANKLIN DELANO, President . Autograph telegram signed ("Franklin D Roosevelt") AS DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, to Marguerite ("Missy") LeHand, Seattle, Washington, on partly printed Western Union telegram form, 20 September 1932. 1 page, an oblong, pencilled note at top "Ch[ar]g[e] Dem[ocratic] Nat[iona]l Committee," time-stamps, lightly browned, left margin a bit uneven . FDR TO "MISSY" LEHAND IN THE HEAT OF HIS PRESIDENTIAL CAMPIAGN A warm, though terse, telegram to Miss LeHand, his long-time personal secretary: "All well. See you [in] San Francisco Friday morning. Hope you have grand trip..." Missy LeHand had worked at the campaign office during FDR's unsuccessful 1920 run for Vice-President on the Cox ticket. She joined FDR's staff in 1921 and, during his term as New York Governor, she was the unofficial hostess of the Governor's Mansion in Albany. In the Roosevelt White House, Lehand served as the President's social and personal secretary until her death in 1945.
