Beschreibung:

RONALDS, Alfred. The Fly-Fisher's Entomology , Liverpool: Henry Young & Sons, 1913. 2 volumes, 4° (250 x 188mm.). Titles printed in red and black. Volume I with 20 plates, comprising 6 photographic views of rivers, 2 portraits and 13 hand-coloured engraved plates. Volume II with 48 flies within sunken linen-backed mounts on 9 thick cards. (Occasional light spotting). Original green morocco-backed cloth, spines gilt, top edges gilt. (Rubbed at extremities). NUMBER 233 OF 250 COPIES, in a total limitation of 270. Although in 1913 dry-fly fishers would no longer use a rod from twelve to fifteen feet long, and a reel-line of twisted hair, "generally attached to the rod about ten to fourteen inches from the end of the butt," as Ronalds recommends, it is a remarkable testimony to his treatise that it could retain the confidence of practical anglers for at least a seventy-seven year period up to the publication of this eleventh edition. The silhouette portrait of Ronalds, included in this superb edition as plate 1, is the only known likeness of the author. Heckscher 1644. (2)
