Photograph by Heinrich Hoffmann of Munich. Signed ('Rommel') in bold pencil with his name alone at the base of the image. Together with Lucie Maria Mollin (1894-1971) Wife of Erwin Rommel. T.L.S., Lu, two pages, small 4to, Herrlingen, 20th December 1943, to her husband ('Meinliebster Erwin!'), in German. Rommel informs her husband 'That you arrived safely in France was publicly announced via radio and so the veil of secrecy has been lifted' and continues to write of family and domestic matters, referring to having received packages of food including pheasants, rabbit, chicken and wild duck, and asking how her husband will spend Christmas, 'May good health and soldier's fortune be with you and you achieve great things .May the Lord bring an end to the dark days .', and further also sending news of their son Manfred who has been drafted to report on the 5th January for Home Anti-Aircraft duty.
